brooklyn air

commissioned by Michael Markowski, based on a piece for wind band he wrote of the same name for his middle school band director’s retirement. The brown cityscape is New York City’s skyline, and the bridge is the famous Brooklyn Bridge. The lone window is from a photo of a nighttime city scene that Markowski really, really likes, and wanted to include (even though it didn’t have any trees in it!). The music on the wires is taken from the piece itself, and the choice of cardboard is for the city aesthetic. (I did not paw through any trash cans for this cardboard.) Lastly, I thought a setting sun would depict a bittersweet mood; a lovely “end of an era,” as Mrs. Hudson from BBC’s Sherlock says.

(by the way, I am officially Sherlocked. Sorry.)
