Made as a gift for our amazing high school band director Chris Weise, based on a piece for wind band of the same name by Frank Ticheli that we played in band. Created in collaboration with Kimia Zadegan. (April 2014) The cities represented here are Chicago, New York, Boston, and San Francisco– our band director’s favorite cities. The notes in the floral pattern extending to the sky are from the famous Blue Shades clarinet solo, and the birds on the wires below the clarinet soloist are the notes that form the bass line which accompanies the solo. Blue Shades is currently taking up a big piece of wall space in McLean High School’s band office. | size: 2×3 ft
