city trees

Commissioned by composer Michael Markowski as cover art for his piece for wind band of the same title. Markowski says that he was inspired to write the piece when he saw a tiny little tree in front of his apartment window struggling to grow into a giant on the cracked streets of New York City, and was moved by its perseverance and beauty. He has photos of that particular tree in different seasons of the year. The white tree portrayed in this paper cutting is that exact same tree. Like the music, this paper cutting is centered around the idea of rising from a harsh environment. | size: 12×12″
